PA & Tannoy Applications
The following are examples of 'applications' that show how public address
/ tannoy systems are used throughout different business, education and industry
sectors:
> Factory / Industrial PA Systems
> Office PA Systems
> Education, Schools & Classroom PA &
Sound Reinforcement Systems
> Conference and Public Event PA & Sound
Reinforcement Systems
> Church & Religious PA & Sound Reinforcement
> Portable PA & Sound Reinforcement
Factory/Industrial
PA/Tannoy Systems
Factories, production lines and warehouses are generally large volume, busy
and often noisy work spaces. They often present individual challenges and
constraints, meaning many are left with regularly inaudible or unintelligible,
poorly designed PA/Tannoy systems. Acoustic profiling and considered ambient
noise levels are crucial design inputs to enable a successful solution within
these difficult and often hazardous areas.
Typical installation technologies & products: multi-input
mixer, multi-output amplifier, radio tuner, music source, medium and large
'horn' style speakers, central/area/zone volume control, multi-zone microphone/s.
Office
PA/Tannoy Systems
Office environments are generally quieter than busy public space areas.
Open or compartmented offices normally offer little challenge to the PA
design. However, it is important to respect individuals working space and
desk layouts to afford comfortable PA sound levels against the relative
low ambient background noise levels (eg. we don't want to position an office
ceiling speaker directly above someone's head). For customers / sites that
have up-to-date data networks, then there is a real possibility to consider
a PA over IP Solution.
Typical installation technologies & products: multi-input
mixer, multi-output amplifier, ceiling and wall style speakers, multi-volume
control units, multi-zone microphone/s. Might also be called to integrate
the PA system to the customer PABX system to enable telephone based PA /
paging.

Education,
Schools & Classroom PA/Tannoy Systems & Sound Reinforcement
'The 'sound' of education - schools and classrooms present a variety of
challenges to PA design and implementation. In most cases, we would suggest
a mixed approach when selecting and designing system components, particularly
with speakers that best suit the very different environments that schools
present (libraries, sports halls, corridors, lecture rooms etc..). Particular
challenges exist to a PA application to cover large university campus. Many
schools, especially those offering further education (colleges and universities),
often make use of a 'Sound Reinforcement' PA application to enable enhanced
listening performance in larger classrooms and learning auditoriums. Many
schools also employ a portable PA solution for location flexibility (eg.
school events, shows & sports days).
Typical installation technologies & products: multi-input
mixer, multi-output amplifier, horn, ceiling and wall style speakers, multi-volume
control units, multi-zone microphone/s, possible voice evacuation
(VEVAC),
sound reinforcement PA with associated wireless devices. Considered hearing
impaired person(s) - Induction loop (AFILS) and/or Infrared (IR).

Conference
and public event PA & Sound Reinforcement
Small meetings to large scale public events. Enable interactive event discussions
and communications. Wired and wireless, delegates and conference managers
can interact and communicate collectively through well planned and well
designed PA and 'Sound Reinforcement' solutions. Similar Sound Reinforcement
application and design considerations to those educational based systems
as mentioned above.
Typical installation technologies & products: Fixed
or portable (WiFi, Radio Frequency or Infrared based communications). Central
control unit (PC/software solution possible), Chairman and scalable Delegate
units for control and speaker/monitor functions. Considered hearing impaired
person(s) - Induction loop (AFILS) and/or Infrared (IR).
Church & Religious
PA & Sound Reinforcement
Cathedrals, Churches & Places of Worship provide a unique and often
challenging building and acoustic environment for PA and Sound Reinforcement
systems. These buildings can present particular consideration to installation
services, such as cable routing and positioning of system devices - access
and sometimes height issues can add to these considerations. Considerate
understanding should be made to the building fabric of many of these historical
buildings - selection of sympathetic materials and installation methods
are very important.
Many smaller churches & chapels simply employ a basic sound reinforcement
solution. Larger churches, buildings and cathedrals (especially those that
open for tourism and public viewing's or hold regular large public events
/ performances) look towards PA (and perhaps Voice Evacuation) for public
messages and announcements. Some may use zoned PA as part of their 'visitor
experience' as people walk around the building. Sound Reinforcement is clearly
very important also within these large buildings.
Typical installation technologies & products: multi-input
mixer, multi-output amplifier, horn, ceiling and wall style speakers, multi-volume
control units, multi-zone microphone/s, possible voice evacuation
(VEVAC),
sound reinforcement PA with associated wired & wireless devices. Considered
hearing impaired person(s) - Induction loop (AFILS) and/or Infrared (IR).
Portable PA
& Sound Reinforcement
Portable PA solutions can provide location independent and very flexible
sound reinforcement for all sorts of meetings, events and public gatherings
(schools, village fetes, gyms, sports etc...).
Typical installation technologies & products: Megaphones,
Small portable 'all in one box' hand held amp and wired microphone, Medium
portable RF/wireless amp unit with wireless mic/s, Large portable systems
- combined amp, mixer, tuner & music (cd, MP3 even wav and other music
files) - RF mic/s, headsets & speakers.
