Can I get cheaper house insurance if work is certified to Part P?2. Why do we need electrical regulation? We have electrical regulation to standardise work against best working practicesand to create safe, functional electrical installations. Now in it's 16th edition, the British Standards Institute (BSI) and the Institute of Electrical Engineers (IEE) latest regulations (BS7671, amendment no 2 in 2004) was further added to and enhanced to make improvements but also to meet evolving electrical demands within the world we no live in. Modern homes and offices have much more electrical demand than they had 10 or 20 years ago (additional appliances, devices, heating, lighting, computers etc.) However, most homes of this age were built for less demand, so we have an overall imbalance. Specific to Part P and our homes - electrical work should always be conducted to BSI, IEE regulations. The government created Part P, to help ensure that work is in fact being done to these regulations, by certifying electricians and electrical contractors as 'competent persons' Or by working through the local buildings control office. |
